Super Smash Brothers Ultimate Announced at Nintendo Direct

With a weekend full of incredible announcements, stunning trailers, massive live presentations, and questionable music performances, Nintendo presented their upcoming titles in their Tuesday morning Direct conference that has become their annual tradition in lieu to a massive stage conference. It is a quick, simple way to feed everyone the information they need and is very beneficial to those at home that are unable to attend the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) trade show that we all wait for each year.

Despite a multitude of performances, Nintendo decided to drop the mic and blow our minds by finally announcing the newest addition to their Smash Brothers franchise…and boy is it ginormous.

Super Smash Brothers Ultimate will feature every single character that has ever been in a Super Smash Brothers game, alternative costumes for those characters, new characters, side characters as assist trophies, new Final Smash attacks, new stages, and then some. Veteran characters have has face lifts to their attacks. New characters bring new variety. It is just a crazy huge game.

The roster currently announced is as follows:

\Mario, Samus, Kirby, Bowser, Link, Donkey Kong, Fox, Falco, Marth, Zelda, Shiek, Villager, Mewtwo, Meta Knight, Sonic, Ryu, Cloud, Bayonetta, Solid Snake, Peach, Pikachu, Ice Climbers, Inkling, Captain Falcon, Zero Suit Samus, Wii Fit Trainer, Charizard, Ivysaur and Squirrel, Ness, Lucas, Ganondorf, Ike, Pichu, Jigglypuff, Roy, Olimar, Diddy Kong, Lucario, Lucina, Robin, Mr Game and Watch, Greninja, R.O.B, Dr. Mario, Duck Hunt, Pit, Dark Pit, Palutena, Corrin, Bowser Jr, Toon Link, Young Link, King Dedede, Rosalina and Luma, Mii Gunner, Mii Swordfighter, Mii Brawler, Wario, Little Mac, Pac-Man, Shulk, Wolf, Mega Man, Yoshi and Luigi.

There is also the addition of Inkling from Splatoon and Ridley from Metroid. All characters will need to be unlocked in true fighting game form so the initial roster will only include key characters from Nintendo properties.

Other announcements geared towards Smash Brothers is that the Holy grail of game controllers will be able to be used – the Gamecube controller. So, no worries about having to learn how to play Smash Brothers with the Joy cons.

In a final mic drop, Nintendo gave us the release date: December 7, 2018. Hold on to your Switch consoles, gamers. This is going to be wild.
